At Jesus and Mary Secondary School, Gortnor Abbey, our Claudine Centre provides specialised support for students with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) within an inclusive secondary school setting.
The centre is designed to support students in accessing education, developing independence, building confidence, and participating fully in school life. Students benefit from a structured and supportive environment while also having opportunities to engage with the wider school community.
Our aim is to help every student feel valued, understood, and empowered to achieve success both academically and personally.
Our Approach
We recognise that every student is unique and may require different levels of support throughout their educational journey.
Support strategies are tailored to the individual strengths, needs, and goals of each student.
Students are encouraged to participate in school life while receiving the support necessary to access learning successfully.
Predictable routines and supportive learning environments help students build confidence and independence.
Promoting positive wellbeing, self-confidence, and a sense of belonging remains at the heart of our approach.
Placement within the Claudine Centre is subject to specific eligibility criteria and national guidelines. Students applying for a place must have a diagnosis of Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), and applications are considered in accordance with Department of Education and NCSE requirements. Parents who wish to explore this option are encouraged to contact the school for further information regarding the admissions process.
Learning, Growth & Independence
Our Autism Classes support students in developing the academic, social, communication, and life skills needed to thrive both within school and beyond.
Students are encouraged to become independent learners, build positive relationships, and participate confidently in school activities. Through collaboration between students, families, teachers, and support staff, we work to ensure that each young person is given the opportunity to reach their full potential.
